TEFL EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
April 2013 – Shane English School – Ningbo, China
May 2014
Students ranged from 4-14 years old and class sizes ranged from 4-12 children. Building on my previous experiences of planning productive fun lessons, I also used my experience to help newer teachers develop their teaching skills. I also taught 1 on 1 adult classes during this time and also public school classes of up to 40 children helping me to acquire different skills that could also be translated to a smaller class. Presentation classes to show the students progress to their parents were also common.
I absolutely love teaching and the unpredictability and excitement involved. I created great bonds with all my classes and found the creative aspect of lesson planning and implementing those plans extremely rewarding. Seeing the students learn and grow with my help has been an incredible experience.
May 2012 - York English School of foreign languages – Fuzhou, China
Nov 2013
Taught English to children ranging in age from 4-17 in classes of up to 16 children. Work included creating lesson plans that were best suited to teach the target language of that lesson, creating a fun and educational atmosphere in class where children enjoyed learning English and were eager to participate, and working with both parent feedback and TA’s to provide the best learning environment possible. Also taught many out of school promotional classes in a public setting and, after-school workshops for Halloween, Christmas etc. Worked 6-day weeks during winter and summer holidays.
TEFL England 130-Hour TEFL Certificate
Included 50-hour online course, 30-hour grammar and language awareness course, 20-hour TEFL video course and a 3 -day teacher training course; providing experience of teaching and presenting in front of a class and how to approach and overcome the different challenges that teaching English can present. The teachers’ pack also proved very useful throughout the course, along with books such as Practical English Usage and Teaching Tenses, which provided me with different styles of teaching and many games and activities that can be used when teaching English as a foreign language
