2014-Present, Kid Castle Educational Corporation,

Foreign English Teacher

I currently work as an English language teacher in Shanghai, working with both young children and teenagers. I believe this experience has provided me valuable practical teaching experience while allowing me to experience life in an Asian country. The key duties of this job include;

• Clearly presenting English      language lessons to students, ranging from 4 to 15 years old. This has      given me valuable experience of the classroom dynamic, and has helped me      to develop my ability to present often complex information to students of      varying abilities.
• Creating course      materials to aid in the delivery of lessons.
• Planning a number of      lessons each week, which allows me to gain experience of tailoring lessons      to meet the specific learning needs of my students.
• Designing and      delivering language and culture related activities, including activities      on Western culture, geography and recycling.
• Liaising with      Chinese colleagues and parents on issues related to course planning and      individual student needs.

This time living in China has also allowed me the fantastic opportunity to gain the experience of adapting to a foreign culture while learning the Mandarin Chinese language.

2013-2014,  Renfrewshire council

Policy and Research Graduate Intern

In this role I worked full-time in a policy and research role within the Chief Executive’s service at Renfrewshire Council. This allowed me to gain experience in a range of areas within a professional context; including designing and conducting a research project from the ground up, policy development and implementation, event management, community engagement, press relations and web authoring. Projects I worked on included;

• Researching,      designing and implementing a comprehensive package of employee engagement      policies for the council. This involved conducting desktop research, focus      groups and a literature review before producing a business case including      recommendations for the implementation of a range of policies.
• Creating training      materials advising colleagues on research methods and policy implementation
• I worked with the      council’s Communications team on a number of occasions, primarily around      cultural festivals. I worked as a press assistant during these events,      which included interviewing notable participants for press releases. I      also attended photo-calls and produced press releases, which gave me      valuable insight into the practicalities of press relations and communications.      
• I also completed a      Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accounting course on project      management, which will prove valuable when designing and delivering      independent projects.

This position allowed me to develop my professional skills in such a way as to allow me to adapt to new and challenging work environments.

MA Social Science (Hons) Politics 1^st Class

This four year MA Politics course involved studying questions of legitimacy, authority, justice, freedom, and rights, sometimes as normative ideas and sometimes from the perspective of particular countries or groups.

Through constructive and thoughtful debate, as well as through written essays and projects, the study of politics has allowed me to develop my analytical skills, oral presentation style and writing abilities.
