Initially employed as Resident Tutor for two years alongside teaching duties, which involved supervising students during all evenings and weekends and providing pastoral care where needed.  First-aid trained (renewed in 2013 for employment as Relief Tutor). 

In 2011 employed as Sessional Tutor, mainly Sociology.  Responsible for entire A Level specification delivery through lively interactive lessons.  Several different units taught depending on student preference.  Required to be organised, holistic in approach and flexible to different demands of the course and of individual students.  Developed the Department by increasing numbers taking the subject, attending exam board training courses and accepting the role of script examiner for OCR, summer 2013 and 2014.  Began teaching Government and Politics A Level in 2013.

My other major role at Brooke House was Short Course Coordinator, managing every aspect of short academic/cultural courses for small 10-30 sized groups of students, mainly from China.  This would encompass airport transfers, trip planning and execution, inductions, activity leading, timetabling, accounting and cross-department coordination.  Agencies/schools in China have sent new groups of students year after year based on positive student/leader feedback, now sending groups during Chinese New Year and the summer.

Other Brooke House roles included summer school positions four consecutive years (mainly teacher and senior activity leader), PSHE teacher, PE teacher, Debating Club leader, Student Council staff rep, organiser of summer ball, pastoral supervisor, invigilator.

Teacher of English as a Foreign Language

At Embassy Summer Schools in Canterbury and London.  International students of a variety of levels, in addition to activity leading and other organisational duties.  Managed week-long courses and activities tying in competitions, afternoon trip preparation and cultural education.  Contract was extended until school closure of school at end of summer.

~ 2007, 2008, 2009

At Simao Middle School 2 of Yunnan province, Yuenhe Middle School 1 of Jiangsu province and Tangshan Middle School 2 of Hebei province, China, respectively.  Full time teacher of English to 20 different classes per week to a total of five different grades.  Involved in all aspects of the school day from planning to marking.  Also took part in sporting events, English speaking competitions and so on.

~ 2005-2008

At California Language Center, Khon Kaen,Thailand.  Courses varied hugely in content, but particular areas of teaching experience gained here were general conversation, academic reading and writing, and business English.  As a private English school, I taught children, teenagers, university students, factory workers, nurses and other local professionals.

Freelance editor of formal English for a private client in Thailand, and formerly for a university in Thailand and post-grad students in the UK.  Most work based on English press releases and correspondence, contracts and presentations.  I have written-up formal academic papers for outside clients.

Charity Fundraiser                                            

~ Winter 2005, 2007

Professional public fundraiser for the Dialogue UK Group.  Worked with different charities (British Red Cross, Help the Aged) in promoting them to the public and seeking committed donors.  Excellent people skills acquired.  Assistant team leader; trained new team members.

Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology                       ~ 2001-2004

University of  Bath, 2001 to 2004, class 2:1 (hons).  A unit-based course, with specialist tutoring in sociological theory, criminology, psychology.  Dissertation was a research project on women and ethnicity, involving in-depth interviews.
