 Dear Director,

It is with great enthusiasm that I submit this application in consideration for an ESL position in China. As a lover of education, both learning and teaching, I have been able to complete a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration as well as almost completing off a Masters in the same field. With my experiences and academic qualifications I am looking for an opportunity to utilize my skills to help advance either the career, academic or personal goals of speakers of other languages.

The enclosed resume will highlight my formal and informal teaching experiences from university settings in big cities to smaller villages overseas. I think the one trait every teacher needs to have is passion. Without that the rigor that is required to ensure your students academic success will be difficult. My personal style of teaching is based on the student-centered approach. I have discovered students are much more interactive and involved when lessons are designed in a cooperative teaching style where students are engaging with other students and the instructor, while the instructor facilitates this classroom learning. With this approach I have noticed both academic and social growth in students.

I have worked in the Middle East and South America and have experience in the regions cultural and religious settings and have learned to adapt to the lifestyle. My experiences in Turkey and Brazil have been extremely fulfilling and have helped advance my knowledge and experience in teaching English to foreign speakers from a wide set of proficiencies and backgrounds. With three years of this experience overseas, I am ready for new challenges in new places. I will be able to utilize the skills I've gained in my previous experiences to ensure the academic success of my ESL students in the future. I have learned that as an ESL instructor the most important trait is patience and the will to plan your lessons in a way that will be engaging and interesting for students to remain attentive and willing to learn.
