EMPLOYMENT:

2010 to date: Oral English teacher at Chizhou University, Anhui, China. I have taught conversation, business and interactive English and am proud to say I assisted one of my students to achieve a university “first” by going all the way to the national final in Beijing of the FLTRP English speaking competition. During my time here I have volunteered and spent time with students throughout the entire education spectrum with the exception of kindergarten. My lessons are described by students as “vivid” and I try to keep them interesting.

2004 to 2010: 7.5tonne lorry driver for Parcelnet (latterly Hermes after name change) delivering work to courier addresses plus larger items to private customers. Unsupervised.

1998-2004 CNC turning machine operative, Melborha Eng Ltd, Luton. Producing repetition items for clients to high precision standards (+/-2 microns). Work unsupervised.

1997-1998 Director and Company Secretary for Focal Point Kitchens Ltd, Luton - as above.

1990-1997 Director and Company Secretary for Arthur Rathbone Kitchens Ltd, Luton. Second in command to the MD, responsible for virtually everything from dealing with the bank, payroll, correspondence, handling all legal work including Court appearances for the Company both as plaintiff and defendant. Duties too numerous to list in a CV.

1989-1990 Office manager for H-Plan furniture, Luton running entire administration of company

1987-1989 Working for Kitchens Direct as salesman, promoted to area manager with responsibility for 20 salesmen. Short spell working for Permacote of High Wycombe as Sales Manager.

1973-87 Sailed with Scottish Ship Management Ltd, commencing as deck cadet and rising to 3rd Officer and 2nd Officer - the latter two being full watchkeeping positions in charge of navigation, cargo handling, administration among other duties. During my time I have visited 47 countries and over 400 world cities.

EDUCATION:

Standard until age 15 at following schools - Foxes Piece Infants, Holy Trinity Middle (both UK, Marlow), Wellington Point, Mt Gravatt High (both Brisbane, Australia), Sir William Borlase Grammar Marlow. Then HMS “Conway” naval training ship from 15-17. Following this I went to sea and received further education with two spells at Glasgow college of nautical studies and then one at Warsash nautical college, Southampton.

QUALIFICATIONS:

GCSE O Levels in Mathematics, English Language, Navigation and Marine Science.

ONC in Nautical Studies. Second Mates certificate of competency. Many other minor certificates including firefighting, radar observer, ships captains medical cert etc.

INTERESTS/HOBBIES:

Travel, other cultures, reading, writing short stories, cryptic crosswords, current affairs. I enjoy learning new skills and information and I believe I have much to offer due to my experiences in life.

ABOUT ME:

You will see from my varied experience that I am not afraid to take on new roles and responsibilities. I enjoy a challenge, learn quickly and am not afraid of hard work or if necessary putting in additional hours.
