Elite K12: Athena International Academy, Ningbo, China; English Teacher August 2015 – Present

As an English teacher with a growing company such as Athena, I have successfully fulfilled responsibilities that have been vital to development. These successes include curriculum/course development, enhancements to the Guided Reading program, inter-campus course training, and developing academic winter/summer camps. This is executed on top of regular teaching duties that include developing lesson plans, updating course files, participating in regular teacher meetings/trainings, ongoing student evaluations, and conducting new student screeners. I am currently working with our sister school HD Ningbo School (A fulltime private boarding bilingual school) teaching English classes for grades 7-11.

Middle Tyger Community Center, Lyman, SC, USA; ESOL Teacher July 2014 – July 2015

The English for Speakers of Other Languages class at MTCC is a free program offered to any student that wishes to learn English. The class is made up of 10-15 adult students who have immigrated to America. This ESOL class reaches out to a culturally diverse group of English Language Learners. These students’ English levels may range from complete beginner to advanced English.

Hope Center for Children, Spartanburg, SC, USA; TLP Family Counselor July 2014 – July 2015

The purpose of the Transitional Living Program is to increase youth safety, well-being, and self-sufficiency, and to build residents permanent connections with caring adults, with the goal of helping young people who are homeless make a successful transition to self-sufficient living. As a Family Counselor, I was responsible for living at the program house to serve as a permanent mentor to the youth in the program.

AmeriCorps VISTA District Five Family Ministries, Lyman, SC, USA; Family Resource Coordinator

July 2014 – July 2015

Full-time national service with DFFM, a nonprofit focused on providing aid to the District Five School System of Spartanburg County by creating healthy families and encouraging all citizens to develop solutions to the problems identified in the community. My direct responsibilities included volunteer coordination, partnership relations management, and better practices research for our case managers.

Dupage County Forest Preserve, Warrenville, IL, USA; Land Management Seasonal May 2014 – July 2014

The Dupage County Forest Preserve’s values include conservation, preservation, and education. Through my job responsibilities, I practiced the organizations values; enhancing not only visual aesthetics but also the biological impact of the Forest Preserve’s natural landscape.

Illinois State University, Normal, IL, USA; Biological Laboratory/Field Technician September 2012 – May 2014

The insect ecology research laboratory ran by Dr. Steven Juliano hosts postgraduate students whose theses focus on the study of mosquitos. As a laboratory and field technician, my responsibilities included working on various mosquito species research experiments and data analysis. Federal grant approved procedures for gathering and documenting data from the field site required discipline mentality. The ability to train colleagues on the protocol was important for experimental consistency.

VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE

 Ningbo, China; Assistant Basketball Coach November 2015 – Present

School offers their students an opportunity to partake in after-school-activities (ASA). As an assistant basketball coach to Eric Chernoff (head coach), we have been able to transform the middle school and high school students who have enrolled in the basketball ASA. This program offers the students more than just basketball equipment and time to “play around”. During this ASA, the players are taught discipline, team work, English, and a multitude of other life skills that are applicable to the development of their character.

Spartanburg Adult Education, Spartanburg, SC, USA; Volunteer English Teacher December 2014 – July 2015

SAE is a free program offered to any adult that wishes to obtain their GED or partake in general English classes. The English classes offered range from complete beginner to advanced English. The classes are made up of 15-25 adult students. These class not only reach out to under-educated Americans, but also a culturally diverse group of English Language Learners. The goal of this program is to equip the students with English language skills they need in order to better integrate themselves into society; whether that be through furthering their education or advancing their employment opportunities.

•Constructed three standalone STEM courses for Athena International Academy’s summer and winter camps to engage primary & middle school students with hands-on PBL learning.

•Created a guided reading program that incorporates drama and acting to improve reading comprehension.

•With cooperation of co-teachers, developed a Literature, Writing, and Project Based Learning course.

•Developed a Resource Referral Guide to help navigate residents of Spartanburg County that struggle with poverty on a daily basis.

•Constructed a Partnership Relations Manual and a Volunteer Management Manual for District Five Family Ministries so that Public Relations and Human Resources may improve.

•Completed Motivational Interviewing Training so that I may communicate with other people more effectively.
