Teaching
While working with Winner Education I got to work with a lot of different age groups and using my knowledge on how to learn a language (I speak 3) really helped teaching my students in the best way possible. I like to practice on pronunciation in particular. I strongly believe that if you have good pronunciation in a language you can improve your language ability fast. My mother is actually also a kindergarten teacher and I spent my young years at her kindergarten so I naturally love playing with younger children and am used to it. Also my biggest belief is that learning has to be fun! If you don’t have fun learning something you won’t remember it so with my students I also try to put a smile on their face and teach them English in a way that will engage them.
Customer Service
I have developed strong customer service skills at my various jobs and I am able to communicate with people from many different walks of life. I enjoy meeting new and interesting people. I like to make sure I communicate with people in a way that’s comfortable and easy for them to understand. I love talking with people and making sure they feel comfortable even if they don’t speak the best English. Leadership
I attended an Outward Bound leadership course and while there I gained many new skills such as team management, public speaking and how to communicate well with others. I also went on a 10 month student exchange through World Youth Service (WYS) and lived with four different families in and around the Tokyo area. Coming from such a small town and going to the big city really opened my eyes and having to live in a different culture challenged me but has allowed me to be adaptable to any culture and any foreign language. While in Japan I improved my ability to speak Japanese and the experience really opened my mind to what’s out there in the world.
I am a keen Chess player and have participated in many tournaments and competitions where I have excelled. I speak English, Japanese and Maori and have also begun studying Mandarin Chinese.
