WECL specializes in immersion English courses for adults. In in this full-time position I have gained invaluable experience in planning, managing and delivering high-quality and highly interactive English lessons. During the first semester, I quickly learned how to engage and encourage adult learners and help them build their English knowledge, vocabulary and confidence. Since then I have had the experience of delivering business English training to outside businesses.

In this full-time role with Shane English, I had the support and freedom to develop my teaching skills to a high level. I have gained experience in teaching small classes of children (aged 3 -12) using a wide range of teaching materials, including specialist reading books as well as Phonics course books. Aside from teaching I have been responsible for testing my students, giving demonstration classes and level checks.

At Pumpkin English I gained experience in the use of interactive whiteboards to teach Kindergarten level classes. Teaching objectives were met through the use of games, role-play, cartoons, drawing etc.

September 2011 – July 2013

During my first two years studying in Chengdu, I gained teaching experience through various English teaching roles. I taught freelance at Kindergarten level, as well as teaching middle- school students through a training school, and giving one-to-one tuition to children and adults.

During this time I also taught a semester-long oral English course at Sichuan Normal University. I learned a lot about the teaching process during these two years, as well as coming to understand common errors and biases in Chinese learners.

Freelance Artist, working on Fauna Automata: British Wild Boar, Gloucestershire, UK

April 2011 – August 2011

Fauna Automata: British Wild Boar was a self-initiated art project that comprised a month- long residency and exhibition in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, UK, exploring the recent re-introduction of wild boar to the UK landscape. As part of the project, I designed and facilitated workshops for local school children and families that allowed the participants to create their own mechanical sculpture. The project was supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and Forestry Commission England.
